Forsythia Hedge
The forsythia hedge is on of the most popular for a low maintenance border. The forsythia hedge can be controlled for desired height by selecting one of the several cultivars that would fit each landscaping situation. The forsythia hedge is also popular because they tolerate poor growing conditions.

Some of the taller forsythias need ample room to grow out naturally and they will take on a graceful flowing hedge appearance. They make an excellent informal shrub border, and taller varieties can be espaliered or trained into shapes against a wall. They tolerate average soils conditions and city life well.

To achieve beautiful forsythia hedge select a site that has full sun or light shade. Space the selected cultivar plants 4 to 6 feet apart. The forsythia hedge is deciduous and they drop their leaves in the fall and are effective screens mainly during the growing season.

Select hedge plants that grow to the desired height. Don't plant a tall-maturing forsythia hedge where a short, informal hedge is unless you crave extra work. Selecting the correct plants at planting time can prevent many future problems.
